In February 2025, Orange, a leading global telecommunications provider operating through Orange.com and Orange.ro, suffered a major breach after refusing to pay a ransom demanded by a threat actor under the name Rey. The leaked data is mostly from the Orange Romania Division, but also includes files from multiple global divisions. The breach exposed more than 600,000 customer records (including 380,000 unique email addresses) along with confidential files outlining source codes, internal documents, invoices, contracts, projects, tickets, user data, employee information and future project plans. The data was then sent to a security researcher and Orange confirmed the breach on February 24.
